Post 1934 Racquets

In 1934, the leather grip became popular, and there was far greater variety within the racquets. They became much more colorful with a greater assortment of decals, shapes and endorsers. There were many more varieties of wood used on different parts of the racquet, mostly ash.

The first monofil strings, predominantly nylon, hit the market in the late 30's. The limited manufacturing of metal racquets started to diminish, not to regain popularity until the mid 70's.
